“Let us therefore continue our triumphant march to the realization of the American dream. Let us march on segregated housing until every ghetto or social and economic depression dissolves, and Negroes and whites live side by side in decent, safe, and sanitary housing.”

Martin Luther King Jr. – March 25, 1965

In 1968, in response to the assasination of  Martin Luther King Jr. the United States Congress passed, and President Lyndon B. Johnson signed into law the 1968 Fair Housing Act.

“Title VIII of the proposed Civil Rights Act was known as the Fair Housing Act, later used as a shorthand description for the entire bill. It prohibited discrimination concerning the sale, rental and financing of housing based on race, religion, national origin and sex.”
